Ready for some football?
“What are you doing this afternoon”? The question hung in the air for a moment like a skyward punt that was quickly hurtling down on me. I find these questions are usually connected to a great thing or connected to help with a task. Adrian stood there towering in the door frame waiting for my reply and figured either way would be just fine. So at the risk of my traditional Sunday afternoon siesta, I said “Not much, what’s going on?”.
Five hours later Jenn and I were in Irving cheering on the Dallas Cowboys against the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s funny how you wake up and think you have your day planned out and things spin a totally different direction. It had been 15 years since I had last seen a Dallas Cowboy game. A game that featured the historic match up between the boys in blue and their west coast rivals, the 49ers. This game was certainly not expected to be anything like that game but it would be one that Jenn would remember. She had never attended a NFL game before and she was very excited for the opportunity.
With the parking pass provided, we got our spot, walked in (with a pat down by security), then proceeded to our seats. Once there, Jenn decided she would like a shirt so we purchased a pink Jason Witten tee which I was devastated to learn she didn’t plan on wearing at the game (She planned on showcasing it at school to her kids and didn’t want it to get dirty. But due to school policy, she can’t wear t-shirts until Fridays. So it made little sense to me why she couldn’t wear it today and wash it before then)! Except for the highly rude row of people behind us and Jenn getting a headache towards the end, it was a fantastic experience. It turned out to be a competitive game that wasn’t decided until a circus catch by the Cowboys sealed the win with 2 minutes left. Also, how often do you get to hear the P.A. state “Catch made by number 85, Ocho-Cinco”?
The game was also special because it was a reunion game for the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, one of which is a volunteer on our tech team at Preston Trail. With her former colleagues from the class of ‘89, she danced at half-time to such 80’s classics like “Thriller”. I highly recommend attending any performance in which a fellow church friend will be dancing to Michael Jackson!
Jenn and I are incredibly thankful to the Domek family for the chance see a Cowboy game. So if you need a favor from me, now might be a good time to ask “What are you doing this afternoon?”. I’m fairly positive my response will have no hesitation.

That is great that you got to go. Sounds like fun. Love, mom
Jenn didn’t get the “Blue” memo
